Frequently Asked Questions

How will virtual learning work? Will there be set class times?

Virtual learning may consist of specific times for students to login to to see a live lesson and interact with the teacher, but it will mainly consist of students accessing learning at different times, and working through the learning at his/her own pace. Your child’s school/teacher will be reaching out to explain the details of virtual learning specific to your child’s school.

If my child enrolls in the 100% virtual option, can he/she participate in athletics and/or extracurricular activities?

Yes, students enrolled in the Rapides Parish 100% virtual option can participate in athletics and extracurricular activities (updated July 14, 2020).

If I choose the 100% virtual option, how will elementary students participate in the virtual program?

Elementary students in the virtual program are expected to have a learning coach, usually a parent or guardian, at home with them while they learn. The virtual program teacher will work directly with the student, but will also include the learning coach in some of the activities. Elementary classes in the virtual program will include group activities that allow elementary students to interact with other students their age.

If I choose the 100% virtual option, will my child be enrolled at a traditional school, or will there be a separate virtual school?

The Rapides Virtual Program is not a separate school. Every school in Rapides Parish offers classes through the Rapides Virtual Program and every virtual student will be fully enrolled at his or her zoned school. However, students in the virtual program will not go to the school campus to attend classes.

If I choose the 100% virtual option, will my child be able to switch between the virtual program and the traditional face-to-face program?

Students will only be allowed to switch from the virtual program back to face-to-face at the end of a grading period (the end of the 9-weeks). This year those dates are Oct. 7, Dec. 18, and Mar. 11.

Does a student who enrolls in the virtual program lose his/her spot in a magnet/Montessori school and/or high school open enrollment?

No, the student will not lose his/her magnet/Montessori or open enrollment status.
