Parent Notification
Public School Choice
January 29, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Act 853 of 2014 provides for the right of a parent or legal guardian to enroll his child in a school other than the school to which the child was scheduled to be enrolled based upon a school district attendance zone, if the school at which the child was most recently enrolled received a School Performance Score of “D” or “F” in the most recent school year, and the school to which the child is sought to be enrolled received a School Performance Score of “A”, “B” or “C” in the most recent school year, pursuant to the state’s school and district accountability system. As Act 853 provides for certain variable eligibility criterion, any enrollment based upon Act 853 will be considered an annual enrollment and will not obligate the District to allow for enrollment beyond one school year.  Student enrollment is based on the greatest need.

If your child is in a D or F school they are eligible to transfer to an A, B, or C school within the school district if capacity allows.  A student may remain at their CHOICE school until they grade out and/or if they are in violation of the CHOICE policy.  According to ACT 853 CHOICE enrollment is for one year only and to remain in CHOICE a student must enroll every year.

RENEWALS are scheduled to be updated by phone.  A member of the Federal Programs staff will call for renewal applications ONLY.
NEW applications will be completed and submitted online at rpsb.us from February 17-26, 2021.

You will be contacted after all applications have been received and evaluated.

Registration deadline is February 26, 2021.

Transportation is provided for “F” schools ONLY.

Because enrollment is subject to limited availability based on capacity, it is possible that your child will not be accepted into your first choice.  In the event that this occurs, you will be able to select an A, B, or C school where there is capacity.

Any change to RPSB Policy or Procedures, including zone changes could affect your child’s placement.  Please be aware that changes could be made.

If you have any questions about your options under the State’s Public School Choice Policy, please contact:
